Are Essential Oils Safe for Dogs?
Are essential oils safe for dogs? Yes, no and maybe.
Some fruits are great for dogs, like apples, bananas and blueberries, while grapes and cherries are toxic. The same concept applies to essential oils.
There are safe essential oils, unsafe essential oils and “maybe safe” oils. ANY essential oil used on your dog must be diluted. Even in the category of dog-safe essential oils, undiluted, highly concentrated plant extracts can cause serious harm.
SAFE essential oils for dogs include: Chamomile, Helichrysum, Virginia Cedarwood, Frankincense, Lavender, Sage, Rosemary, Oregano, Geranium
UNSAFE essential oils for dogs include: Tea Tree, Cinnamon, Wintergreen, Clove, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Citrus (Lemon, Orange), Eucalyptus
We won’t get into the “maybe’s”- and you won’t find them in our formulas. Your dog's health is worth more to us than maybe.
It’s important to remember that not all dogs react the same way to essential oils. We always recommend testing on a small patch before use on a larger area - and never spray near their eyes, nose or mouth.
